Video Game Addiction Gets Official Diagnosis

In the United States, our primary mental health diagnostic manual (the DSM-5) lists video game addiction as “worthy of further study,” but not as an official diagnosis. This does not, however, mean video game addiction doesn’t exist. It just means the American Psychiatric Association, publisher of the DSM, is a little behind the times. Moreover, the World Health Organization has listed video game addiction as an official diagnosis in the latest update to its International Classification of Mental and Behavioural Disorders (the ICD-11).
